President Barack Obama will announce a new national vaccine tracker Tuesday, according to a senior administration official, as he looks to get a handle on the growing number of Americans who are getting shots after they were previously left unprotected.
The move comes as the Trump administration has ordered additional restrictions on the availability of a flu vaccine, saying it is not necessary for the nation to protect people from the deadly coronavirus.
The president is expected to sign the executive order later Tuesday, the official said.
The White House has been trying to build on momentum created by the coronaviruses coronaviral pandemic, with its push for an emergency mandate to help families cover the cost of vaccines.
That mandate was part of a bipartisan bill in Congress that was approved by the Senate in March.
