India is considering a major plan to build a new rail link linking Delhi and Gwalior.
India is considering building a new railway link linking the two northernmost districts of New Delhi with the rest of Uttar Pradesh.
The new line, called ‘War Zone Track’ or WAT, would be one of the first in the country, with the Indian Railways (IR) having said that it would not only link Delhi and Uttar Pradesh but also the entire country.
According to a report in the Times of India, the plan is being considered by the Delhi government to be part of its plan to take control of the Indian railway system and bring it under the control of a single entity.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the meeting in the southern Indian city on Thursday.
Officials are also discussing how to make the railway link a viable operation.
“We are looking at different ways to achieve it, including making it a viable business model,” a senior government official told India’s Times of Indian newspaper.
